About Matt & Liz

We’ve embarked on an adventure to New Zealand, which began on July 11, 2008. Follow our journey as we work, travel and experience the Kiwi culture in the North & South Islands!

A little bit about Liz…

I’m a Michigander at heart. I love the snow. I love the Great Lakes. The mitten state is where I learned to ski, snowboard, run, play piano, swim and sail. White Hall, Harbor Springs, Boulder and Chicago are atop my “favorite destinations” list, and someday I’ll make it to the usual favorites such as London, Paris and Rome.

In college I became a spirited Hoosier and active member of a sorority…which opened the door to several amazing opportunities. Racing in the storied Little 500 bike race, as well as competing for the IU Cycling Team at Nationals are experiences I will always cherish. College was the time where my friendships blossomed and my adventurous spirit grew.

Upon moving to Indianapolis, my circle of friends grew and I met some of the best people in the world, including my “mate” Matt. Now, Matt and I are ready to discover New Zealand, a country I’ve only every read and dreamt about. We’ll spend just less than a year working and traveling abroad.

Come join our adventure and read our “Songlines!”

A little bit about Matt…

Matt is just getting around to finishing his section of this page three months later than he was supposed to.

I am a card-carrying Hoosier, having lived in Indiana for the last 16 years. I grew up in Fort Wayne before heading to Bloomington to attend IU. While in college I got my first taste of international experience when I headed to Geneva, Switzerland for a semester abroad. While there I was able to visit ten other European countries and really get a taste of what its like outside the US. I also worked as a camp counselor at Camp Brosius, the IU alumni camp while a student at Bloomington.

After graduating, I hiked the Appalachian Trail with a good friend from high school. This trip took just under six months and we hiked from the northern Georgia to central Maine. The experience allowed me to see the entire East Coast of the US and meet some amazing people.

Liz and I are excited to explore the landscape around New Zealand and, so far, we’ve had an amazing experience. We’ll keep updating this blog as we go along our trip.
